The Florida Department of Health (the Department) reports that influenza, or “flu,” activity levels have increased sharply over the last several weeks. Flu is a contagious respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. Serious outcomes of flu infection can result in hospitalization or death. Some people, such as young children, the elderly, and people with certain health conditions are at high risk for serious complications from flu.
Monday through Thursday Bell ringer 3rd period - Students will create a gratitude or thankfulness journal during NSCW detailing the different ways they are grateful for their parents and for the school. Monday 1/22/18 3rd period classes will create a welcome banner to be displayed in the front office for the week. Class banners should be displayed outside the classroom at the conclusion of 3rd period and a winner will be selected 4th period by administration.

Due to the school closings caused by Hurricane Irma, there will not be early release days next week for exams. Mid-term or end-of-course exams will be offered during your regular class period time. Lake County residents are able to pick up one free bike per household at the Lake County landfill through the Bicycle Re-Cycle program. To obtain a new child or adult bike or scooter, visit the landfill, located at 13130 County Landfill Road, Tavares, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and be sure to have ID handy. The program began when Solid Waste employees noticed perfectly good bikes being thrown away simply because children had outgrown them.
To Parents, Guardians, Community Partners, and Students: It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that one of our teachers, Coach Davis, became very ill before Thanksgiving break. His illness was much more serious than first thought and he passed away this past Saturday. We have made grief counselors available for our students and staff as we all work through the grieving process and begin to heal our hearts.
Alee Academy is hopeful to open for students on Tuesday, September 19 as Lake County School plans to, however our school is still without power. We will continue to post updates throughout the weekend with our plans for reopening to students. Teachers & staff should plan to return on Monday, September 18th to get everything ready for the students’ possible return on Tuesday.
